Meet The Doctors

Dr. Penny Peng

Dr. Peng has been practicing dentistry in the Covina area since 1999. She received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Loma Linda University and has enjoyed giving back as a part-time assistant professor at her alma mater since 2002. She has the latest training in cosmetic and implant dentistry, keeping up to date through additional courses at Loma Linda University.

Dr. Peng grew up in the San Gabriel Valley and received a Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration and a Minor in Chemistry at La Sierra University. As a child she lived in Taiwan and Argentina and speaks both Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

She is delighted to be involved with health fairs and school activities serving her Covina community. She has participated in numerous dental missionary trips to China, Mexico, Argentina, La Vida New Mexico and the nearby communities. “Teeth are teeth. They don’t change no matter which country or region you go to. It is great to be able to help other people and to see them smile,” Dr. Peng said.

Dr. Peng is an active member of the Covina Chamber of Commerce. She is also a member of the American Dental, California Dental, and the San Gabriel Valley Dental Associations.

Dr. Peng enjoys being a dentist because through dentistry she can express who she is: caring, compassionate, artistic, and skillful. Outside of her practice she enjoys traveling, skiing, golfing, shopping, going to Dodgers’ games and spending time with her family.

Dr. Peng and her husband, Duane, have two wonderful sons, William and Jacob. The greatest joy (along with being a dentist, of course) is to spend quality time with these energetic sons that fill her world with laughter and happiness.

Dr. Joseph Kan, DDS, MS

Dr. Kan completed Prosthodontics and Implant Surgery from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry (LLUSD). He is currently a Professor in LLUSD and maintains a private practice limited to Prosthodontics and Implant Surgery. Dr. Kan is on the Editorial Board of the Practical Periodontics & Aesthetic Dentistry and the European Journal of Esthetic Dentistry. His honors include the Best Research Award from the Academy of Osseointegration in 1997, the Judson Hinckey Award from the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry in 2003 and the Robert James Achievement Award for his contribution in Implant Dentistry in 2005. Besides lecturing nationally and internationally, he has published over 50 articles in reference journals and chapters in textbooks with emphasis on tissue management and anterior implant esthetics.

Meet The Team

Norma Acosta - Office Manager/Treatment Coordinator

Hello! My name is Norma and I have been in the dental field for over 20 years. I started as a Business and Finance ROP student and then went on to get my RDA license in 1994. I have been working with Dr. Peng for over 10 years. I am happily married and have three children, ages 2, 8, and 10 years old. My family and I enjoy the outdoors, hiking, and riding our horses, Midnight and Princess. In my spare time, I go to the local elementary schools and promote proper brushing and flossing techniques. When time permits, I also help out at my husband’s business, an Auto Body Shop in the city of Irwindale.

Reiko Vargas - Appointment Coordinator

Hello, my name is Reiko. I am very proud to have been given the opportunity to be part of such a wonderful office. I have over four years experience in the dental field, and enjoy what I do. I recently moved to area with my fiancé from San Diego. On my free time, I love nothing more than spending quality time with friends and family.

As a team member, I strive to provide our patients with the most up to date options in dentistry and always approach their dental needs gently and attentively. I feel it is of great importance to educate our patients so they feel confident in making informed decisions. As a new patient, both you and your family can rely on our entire practice to make your dental experience one of a kind!

Roy Ando - Registered Dental Hygienist

Hello, my name is Roy Ando. In 2007, I received my Bachelors of Science in Biology degree from La Sierra University. In May of 2009, I graduated at Loma Linda University where I received my Bachelors of Science in Dental Hygiene. Throughout my life, I have enjoyed selflessly serving others in various countries around the world. So far, I have been a part of three international mission trips – Mexico, Philippines, and China.

On a more personal note, I consider myself a very simple man who enjoys the simple things in life. As a result, I love relaxing at scenic places while drinking tea with friends and family. I also love to eat and cook … and eat what I cook. I love singing and playing the piano. I thank the Lord for getting me to where I am today because without him, I know I would be lost. I am quite proud to be a part of this compassionate team. As a clinician, I am dedicated in preventing oral diseases and maintaining oral health through patient education. Here at Dr. Peng’s office, we not only care about each patient’s teeth but we care about each individual’s well-being as well.
